Lionel Messi talked about winning World Cup 2026 qualifiers and being substituted.

Messi scored a free-kick for Argentina in a 1-0 win against Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier and spoke in an interview after the match. Here is what he had to say:

“We know that these are difficult matches in the qualification. Ecuador have very good players, they know what they are doing and they are very good physically.

“It was a very tough match, very physical. I was a bit tired so they replaced me but I felt good. “It wasn’t that long ago that we were world champions, but it seems like a lot has happened. We have to continue, compete and qualify for the next World Cup, go game by game.

“It showed in the friendlies we played and today for the points that the group will not let up. Everyone wants to beat Argentina and even more now that we are champions.”
