Lionel Messi had one goal and 5 assists for Inter Miami in a 6-2 win vs. New York RB and broke records.

Lionel Messi made MLS history with his five assists for Inter Miami and stole the show. It was New York RB who scored to lead the game 1-0 but it was Lionel Messi who took over the game. Messi assisted Matias Rojas for the first goal to pull Inter Miami level.

The 36-year-old gave Inter Miami a 2-1 lead when the ball fell to him in the penalty area and his effort found the back of the net for Inter Miami’s second goal of the game. Inter Miami’s third goal was arguably Messi’s best assist of the night.

He played a pass that would cut through New York’s back line and it would fall to Rojas once more for his second goal of the game. His next three were for Luis Suarez, the first was a low cross, the second was a play between two players and the third was off the pass.

The Argentine became the first player in MLS history to record five assists in one game and is the first player in MLS this season to reach 10 goals. His one goal and six assists is also a personal best for most goal contributions in one game.

Messi also becomes the first player with more than 1,200 career goals.
