Chelsea will host Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the 2023-24 FA Cup.
The Blues fell agonizingly short in the EFL Cup final as Virgil van Dijk’s 118th-minute goal sank their trophy chances.
Chelsea, who are 11th in the Premier League table, have little chance of gaining enough ground to finish among the European places, so domestic cup glory will be what Mauricio Pochettino will have to aim for in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
The Foxes are in pole position for promotion back to the Premier League as they sit top of the Championship table, but it has been a struggle all the way. Leicester are three points ahead of second-placed Leeds United and four ahead of third-placed Ipswich Town with nine games remaining in the league season.
Leicester City were knocked out of the FA Cup in the previous round by fellow Premier League side Bournemouth, having previously progressed past Millwall and Birmingham City. They gave Liverpool a hard time in the EFL Cup third round at the start of the season but went down 3-1 thanks to two goals from the Reds in the last 20 minutes.
