Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle: Player ratings as Man City into record sixth successive FA Cup semi-final

Bernardo Silva’s two deflected strikes made Man City the first team in FA Cup history to reach the semi-finals for 6 consecutive seasons with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

Pep Guardiola may not want to talk about the prospect of a second treble, but his side are now unbeaten in their last 22 games in all competitions going into the international break after turning into a walk in the Manchester rain on Saturday night.

Newcastle United can point to a crippling injury list, but the team that ended City’s Carabao Cup ambitions in September hardly laid a glove on them this time around, finishing the game with just two attempts on goal to City’s 16.

Pep Guardiola made five changes to the side that were held to a 1-1 draw at Liverpool last weekend, some of them following injuries to Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne, but his players didn’t skip a minute as they dominated the game from the start.

Bernardo Silva’s 13th-minute opener was the visitors’ first real sight of goal, but up until that point it had been Manchester City looking for an opportunity.

When Bernardo stepped forward in the Newcastle box, he found space to try a curling strike that deflected off Dan Burn and left Martin Dúbravka wrong-footed.

The 2nd goal came in the 31st minute. Where Bernardo Silva hit the opener with his right foot, this time he cut inside with his left and looked for the far post, instead finding the net with Sven Botman’s header.
