His contract with Benfica expires at the end of the 2023/24 season, allowing him to join any club he wants. Now the leading candidate for Di Maria is a Major League Soccer club that continues to make headlines.
According to Leo Paradizo of ESPN Argentina, Di Maria and Inter Miami are already starting discussions about joining the MLS club in July. The details of how long Di Maria would stay at Inter Miami and how much he would earn are still far from finalised. Regardless, the winger and the club are in talks, showing Miami’s intent to bring another international star to the team.
Inter Miami and Major League Soccer as a whole benefited mightily from Lionel Messi and his teammates entering the league. MLS Season Pass subscriptions skyrocketed after his arrival last summer.
In the current season, Inter Miami’s road games have attracted large crowds. In Kansas City, over 72,000 fans turned out at Arrowhead Stadium to watch Inter Miami defeat Sporting Kansas City. The last time Inter Miami had a game at Gillette Stadium was against the New England Revolution. More than 65,000 fans attended to set a football record for the stadium. Most of these fans want to see the star-studded team that Inter Miami has assembled.
If Di Maria moves to MLS to Inter Miami, he won’t just link up with Messi. Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba also play for Inter Miami. Although Di Maria never pulled on the same shirt as these three, he certainly shared the pitch with them.
