On Friday morning, FIFA U-17 World Cup action will begin for Panama and Morocco in Indonesia when they meet in the first match of Group A. Panama’s most recent game was during the CONCACAF U-17 Championship. The team played well throughout the tournament but suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to close out the tournament against Mexico.
Panama allowed just one goal in the first half, but Mexico completely dominated the second half. An own goal in the 55th minute made it 2-0, and the next three goals came within 25 minutes of each other. Panama never got a chance to get back into the game as Mexico dominated the game.
Morocco entered Friday’s match after two friendlies played in preparation for the World Cup. The team’s last match ended in a goalless draw against the Czech Republic. Prior to this match, the team earned a 1-1 draw against France.
The last time Morocco made it to the Under-17 World Cup was 10 years ago. During that time, the team won two matches, lost one and drew. Although none of the players from that squad are still around, the nation has been building its program for years to compete with the best in the world and will look to prove that during this tournament.
Morocco and Panama last met during the U17 World Cup in 2013, with Morocco winning 4-2.
