Lionel Messi could return from injury in Inter Miami’s match against Cincinnati in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Inter Miami fans are dying to see their Argentine superstar on the pitch.

The 36-year-old Argentina forward has missed five of Inter Miami’s last six games and another for Argentina this term with what was first said to be fatigue and later ruled to be a hamstring injury. He hasn’t played since his 37-minute appearance against Toronto on Sept. 20, when a leg problem forced him off before halftime.

Messi missed out on Wednesday night as Inter Miami lost 4-1 to the Chicago Fire, greatly damaging their playoff chances. Saturday’s home game against FC Cincinnati is now pretty much a must as Miami is currently five points back of the playoff spot with just three games remaining.

After the Chicago game, Martino said that Messi is improving and could potentially be ready to play on Saturday at the DRV PNK Stadium.

“Leo is closer to being able to play again,” Martino said at a press conference. “We will assess him tomorrow and Friday to see if he is fit to play.

After Messi practiced on Friday, Miami assistant coach Javier Morales told reporters: “We’ll definitely make a decision after practice, but it’s getting better every day.”

On X (formerly Twitter), Inter Miami appeared to hint that the Argentine superstar was ready to go by posting a photo of himself along with the caption in Spanish: “Nos vemos mañana” (see you tomorrow).

Lionel Messi was recently called up by Argentina for the upcoming international matches. They will face Paraguay at home on October 12 before traveling to Peru on October 17.
