Inter improvement shows honest conversations helped – Lautaro Martinez

Lautaro Martinez believes Sunday’s 2-0 win over Salernitana proved Inter have matured as a result of honest conversations that occurred in the changing room during their difficult run.

Their victory at the San Siro gave the Nerazzurri a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions, although that run followed a run of five defeats from 10 at the start of the season.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni told Sky Italia that their recent improvement came after purposeful conversations between the players behind the scenes.

Bastoni suggested that Inter understood that too many players were complaining about others, a realization that helped force a change in approach.

While Martinez – the scorer of Sunday’s first goal – did not want to elaborate, he feels that Inter have put their problems behind them.

“What we say in the dressing room stays there,” he told Sky Italia. “We talked a lot after the defeats, we started working and you can see it on the pitch.

“This victory means that we have grown and matured after the game against Barcelona at home.

“We’re fine, we just have to keep going like this.

When asked if Inter was “back”, he added: “We are on the right path, we have moved.”

Inter’s struggles at the start of the season have seen head coach Simone Inzaghi come under pressure, although he insists he was never particularly concerned, well aware that such scrutiny is to be expected in his line of work.

He said: “It’s normal that things didn’t work out, 84 points was considered a defeat last year, behind Milan.

“We’re coming off three wins and a draw – what I’m looking at now is on the pitch. The pressures are there and there always will be – I know the job I’m doing.”

“We were in control of this game from start to finish. We have to continue like this, things are going well and they have to improve.”
