Manchester City vs Man United Player rating as Foden and Haaland lead Man City to comeback win against United

Manchester City came from behind to win 3-1 over Manchester United to cut their lead over Liverpool at the top to just one point.

City dominated possession in the opening minutes, with United content to sit deep and try to counter through Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnach.

It was Rashford who opened the scoring with a simply stunning strike from 25 yards, beating Ederson after Bruno Fernandes equalised.

City responded with Phil Foden testing André Onan from a tight angle inside the box. A few minutes later, the Cameroon goalkeeper denied the England midfielder with another smart save.

United’s counter continued to cause problems for the home side, with Rashford the main threat in the opening 25 minutes.

The half ended with one of Erling Haaland’s mistakes of the season. After Phil Foden headed the ball across the box after a cross from Rodri, the Norwegian goalkeeper sent it over the bar from less than two meters to the astonishment of everyone present.

In the 56th minute, Phil Foden equalized for City with another incredible strike. After collecting the ball on the right, he went past Victor Lindelof before driving a left-footed shot past Onano.

A second City goal looked likely as the game went into the final 20 minutes, with Pep Guardiola’s side continuing to have almost all of the possession.

That goal came in the 80th minute and it was Foden again. A one-two with Julián Álvarez put him in the box and his low shot slipped past Onan to give City the lead.

Haaland made up for his earlier mistake with the third and final goal of extra time after Soyfan Amrabat gave the ball away on the edge of the box.

United remain in sixth place but are now 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa. As for City, they now face a mammoth title clash at Anfield.
