Tottenham Hotspur are out of Premier League action this weekend due to Chelsea’s appearance in the Carabao Cup final.

Spurs were due to face their old manager Mauricio Pochettino on Friday, February 23. However, this fixture was postponed after the Blues qualified for the League Cup against Liverpool on Sunday 25 February.

The clash at Stamford Bridge will therefore need to be rearranged. Jurgen Klopp’s side were due to face Luton Town at Anfield this weekend, but their game was rescheduled for Wednesday 21 February, which they won 4-1.

Surprisingly, there is no word yet on when Spurs’ London derby will be played. It is understood the decision was made not to move the game to just last week due to Sky TV broadcasting rights.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the popular Champions League returned with action from the round of 16. Arguably unwilling to compete with Europe’s elite competition for viewers, the TV giant is waiting for the next opportune opportunity to rearrange the matches.

Tottenham’s lack of football this weekend could spell trouble for their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Ange Postecoglou’s side are fifth in the Premier League, two points outside the top four.

However, that gap will increase to five points if Aston Villa beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The pressure could also increase on their quest to consolidate fifth place.

Sixth-placed Manchester United face Fulham this weekend knowing victory will move them level on points with Spurs, although Tottenham will have a game in hand in both Villa and Erik ten Hag’s side.
