What is Kylian Mbappe’s potential jersey number at Real Madrid?

Kylian Mbappe is set to inherit the number 10 shirt at Real Madrid after agreeing a move to the Spanish giants.

Earlier this month, the striker informed PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he was leaving in the summer and has since opted for Los Blancos. The World Cup winner is yet to sign a contract and a deal could be announced once the possibility of Real playing PSG in the UEFA Champions League is off the table.

Mbappe has been with the Paris outfit since 2017, following his breakout season with Monaco. He will wear number 10 at Real should Luka Modric release it at the end of the season. The Croatian is one of the club’s modern greats and his contract expired at the end of the season.

He won the Ballon d’Or in 2018 and wants to continue playing past his 40th birthday. Carlo Ancelotti has offered him the chance to join his coaching staff at the Bernabeu and although he initially said no, Athletic report that he is keeping his options open and could yet accept the offer.

Should Modric end his playing spell at the Bernabeu, it would allow Mbappe to get the dream shirt number he wore for France. The number 10 shirt at Real has been worn by the likes of James Rodriguez, Mesut Ozil and Luis Figo.

Terms of Mbappe’s reported agreement with Real Madrid

Mbappe is set to sign a five-year deal with Real that will earn him £12.8m a year, according to the BBC. He will also receive a £128m signing-on bonus, which will be paid over five years.

Mbappe has previously flirted with a move to the Spanish capital and has come close on a number of occasions. Real were interested in the Frenchman when he was playing in Monaco but he has remained at PSG since signing him with the Parisians producing huge sums to keep him.

The French side will now lose Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi in the space of a year as Luis Enrique changes the look of a team that has moved away from big-name stars as they look to win the Champions League coveted by their Qatari owners. .

Mbappe has scored 244 times for PSG since joining and has been named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in the last four seasons. He has won numerous domestic honors but has only made one Champions League final, losing to Bayern Munich in 2020.

Enrique recently said before Mbappe’s departure: “We have always said, ever since I arrived here six months ago, that the team is above all others, above all individuals, and that is the same policy for the whole club.”
