Guinea-Bissau will face Nigeria at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny on Monday in their final match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage.

Guinea-Bissau suffered defeats in their first two group stage matches and were eliminated from the competition. After losing 2-0 to Ivory Coast in their first match of the competition, they were hammered 4-2 by Equatorial Guinea.

After being held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in the opening game of their campaign, Nigeria, the 2013 champions, produced a strong performance to beat hosts Ivory Coast 1-0 on Thursday. The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot when captain William Troost-Ekong converted from the spot in the 55th minute.

The only scenario in which the 2013 champions do not qualify for the knockout stage is if they lose this match and Ivory Coast beat Equatorial Guinea.

Team news

Guinea-Bissau appear to have no fresh injury concerns and Ouparine Djoco is expected to retain his goalkeeper position.

For Nigeria, Zaidu Sanusi came in for the injured Alhassan Yusuf during the match against Ivory Coast and is expected to retain his role in the upcoming matches. This change in squad highlights the team’s adaptability in response to injuries, with Sanusi likely to continue to contribute to the team in Yusuf’s absence.
