Real Madrid vs Villarreal possible lineups, team news and TV Channel for La Liga 2023/24

Real Madrid continue their bid to catch Girona at the top of the La Liga table when they host Villarreal in the Spanish capital on Sunday.

Before this weekend, Los Blancos were second in the table, two points behind surprise leaders who stunned Barcelona last weekend as their dream season continued. That, along with Madrid’s draw with Real Betis, left Girona at the top with 16 games to go.

Jude Bellingham didn’t slow down the scoring, but he was alternately assisted by the rest of Madrid’s attack with Vinicius Jr.

Villarreal, meanwhile, are 13th in the table after the crash with just four points from their last five games, a stretch in which they have scored three goals against three of those opponents. They also come into this match on the back of a hard-fought 3-2 Europa League win away to Rennes on Thursday.

Team News

It has been well documented that Real Madrid have struggled with injuries this season, but things seem to be slowly improving. A handful of players appear to be recovering faster than first feared.

Aurelien Tchouameni has been training with the team and is expected to make the squad against Villarreal. Eduardo Camavinga, Vinicius Junior and Arda Guler have been training with the ball this week and do not appear to be far from returning.

Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao will all be out.

Villarreal have their own injury concerns, although not as serious as Real Madrid’s absence. Yeremi Pino, Santi Comesana and Aissa Mandi are expected to miss out, as well as prospect Denis Suarez.

Villarreal can be confident going into it, having beaten Rennes in dramatic fashion in the Europa League on Thursday night to secure top spot in their group. Matteo Gabbia was stretchered off in this game so is not expected to play here.

Real Madrid lineup  (4-2-2-2):

Kepa; Vazquez, Rudiger, Alaba, Mendy; Valverde, Kroos; Bellingham, Brahim; Joselu, Rodrygo.

Villarreal lineup  (4-4-2):

Reina; Foyth, Albiol, Cuenca, Altimira; Akhomach, Capoue, Parejo, Baena; Moreno, Sorloth.
