The 2023 FIFA Club World Cup will have a lot of attention in the Premier League as Manchester City bid for a first-ever World Cup title in Saudi Arabia.

City’s incredible treble at the end of the 2022/23 campaign saw Pep Guardiola finally lift the Champions League trophy in Manchester after years of frustration.

Despite the potential distraction of a mid-season trip to the Middle East, the prospect of another trophy is key for Guardiola, with Brazil’s Fluminense their main title rivals.

When is the FIFA Club World Cup 2023?

The FIFA Club World Cup 2023 will be held for 10 days from December 12 to December 22.

The competition kicks off with a first round match featuring Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad and OFC Champions League winners Auckland City on 12 December.

This is followed by two second round matches, a semi-final, a play-off for third place and a final, with Manchester City joining in the semi-final.

All games are straight knockout, with 30 minutes of overtime and penalty shootouts in the event of ties.

Where is the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup being held?

The FIFA Club World Cup 2023 features seven club teams from around the world and offers a total of seven matches, all of which will be held in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah.

Jeddah provides two host venues for the competition, including the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium – home of Al Ittihad and the Saudi Arabia national team – and the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium. The two stadiums have respective capacities of 62,345 and 27,000.

The structure of the competition is based on FIFA co-efficient before the start of the tournament with the lower ranking confederations and teams requiring more games.

With UEFA and CONMEBOL ranked as the top two, City and Fluminense will only need to play two games to win the title, but Al Ittihad and Auckland will face four.
