Atletico Madrid vs Sevilla Player Rating as 10-man Atleti hang on for scrappy win over Sevilla

Diego Simeone celebrated his 12th anniversary at Atlético de Madrid with a scrappy win over Sevilla.

It was a fleeting game at the Wanda Metropolitano at first, with both sides showing real hunger, but after 20 minutes things quickly died down.

Atleti fans were arguably more entertained as chances were few and far between with the teams registering just six shots on goal combined and 10 yellow cards in total.

The breakthrough then came within seconds of the reboot. Sevilla’s Sergio Ramos (who received a lot of boos) tried to clear Marcos Llorente’s cross into the box, but it rebounded into the Spaniard’s path and he kicked the ball away.

After an hour, however, things turned interesting.

Atleti picked up another red card in back-to-back league games when substitute Çağlar Söyüncü was sent off via VAR after stepping on Lucas Ocampos’ ankle. He entered the field at 65:43 and was sent off at 69:32.

Star star Antoine Griezmann was forced to wait for his record goal as he was a sub. However, Sevilla did not have enough fight in them to turn things around.

The result leaves Atleti third and Sevilla 15th, just three points clear of relegation with their eighth defeat.
