Alejandro Garnacho wonder goal inspires United to biggest league win of the season

Manchester United returned from the international break in style as they beat Everton 3-0 at hostile Goodison Park.

Goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have seen them maintain their status as the Premier League’s most in-form side with five wins from their last six games and four away wins in the league. It was also their biggest away win in the league since beating Tottenham Hotspur in 2021, a game which kept Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge for a few more weeks.

Erik ten Hag won’t have to mind his own business at this point, but he might want to stay away from the touchline as this was arguably United’s most complete performance over 90 minutes this season. The Dutchman was sent off for this match after three yellow cards.

Puskas’ creditable Garnach goal put Man United ahead after just three minutes. Much like Wayne Rooney versus Manchester City and Cristiano Ronaldo versus Juventus, United’s two greats, Garnacho may have topped both with his rather sensational strike. The Argentinian headed home from outside the penalty area and Jordan Pickford had no choice but to turn and watch as it rocketed past him.

Rashford then doubled United’s lead early in the second half when VAR awarded the visitors a penalty. Martial was initially shown a yellow card by referee John Brooks for simulating. However, this was called off and Rashford was dismissed from the spot. It was only the Englishman’s second league goal of the season and his first since September.

Martial finished off the Toffees with a fine chip past Pickford after initially starting the counter-attack in his own half. The Frenchman scored seven goals against Everton in the league, his most against any opponent in the competition.
