The home team started their campaign on a winning note and recorded two consecutive wins. They beat Bolivia 5-1 at home in the opening game of their campaign with Rodrygo and Neymar donning braces. In his previous match, Marquinhos seized the opportunity to score the winning goal in the 90th minute against Peru.
The visitors faced Colombia in the opener and suffered a 1-0 away defeat, with Rafael Santos Borré Maury scoring the only goal of the game in the 46th minute. They bounced back on a winning streak with a 1-0 home win over Paraguay.
Late drama ensued and a penalty was awarded in added time following a VAR review. Salomón Rondón made no mistakes as he converted from the spot to earn the team three points.
