Barcelona have announced that talented youngster Lamine Yamal has signed a new contract with the club until 2026.
Yamal has taken Europe by storm this season, establishing himself as a regular in Xavi’s first team at the age of 16.
At the end of the 2022–23 campaign, Yamal became Barcelona’s youngest ever player to appear in the competitive competition when he made his La Liga debut at the age of 15 years, nine months and 16 days.
He recently became Spain’s youngest senior debutant and goalscorer after coming off the bench to find the net in a Euro 2024 qualifying win in Georgia.
Yamal has proven to be one of Barca’s most promising players this season, with two assists in eight La Liga games so far.
And Barcelona confirmed on Monday that Yamal will remain in Catalonia and sign a new contract with a €1 billion release clause.
A club statement read: “FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have reached an agreement on a new contract committing the player to the club until June 30, 2026, with a buyout clause set at one billion euros.
“The forward put pen to paper this Monday morning at an event at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper offices attended by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta; First Vice President Rafa Yuste; director responsible for youth football Joan Soler and director. sport, Anderson Luis de Souza ‘Deco’.
“The deal ensures that the youngster will remain at Barca, the club he has belonged to since the age of seven when he arrived from CF La Torreta.”
As Yamal is still only 16 years old, he is only allowed to sign an extension for another three years.
