Paraguay and Peru kick off their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign when they meet at the Estadio Antonio Aranda on Thursday (September 7).
The home team returned to winning ways last time out, defeating Nicaragua 2-0 at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco. Before that, Guillermo Schelott’s side were on a three-game losing streak, suffering friendly defeats against Peru, Colombia and Chile.
Paraguay are unbeaten in their last four home matches, winning three times since losing 1-0 against Uruguay on January 28.
Meanwhile, Peru were sent tumbling back to earth on their previous outing, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Japan at the Suita City Stadium. This was followed by a 1–0 victory against South Korea on 16 June, with Bryan Reyna netting in the first half to end their two-match winless streak.
Juan Maximo Reynos’ side have won one of their seven away matches and lost five since March 2022. He has not lost 10 games since 2014 against Paraguay
