Manchester City will begin their UEFA Champions League title defense when they welcome Red Star Belgrade to the Etihad on Tuesday night.
European champions Manchester City have the chance to kick off their new UEFA Champions League campaign with an emphatic result when they take on Serbian side Crvena Zvezda Belgrade. City have enjoyed a perfect start to this Premier League season, winning each of their five matches so far.
They won 3-1 against West Ham United at the London Stadium last Saturday. After James Ward-Prowse was let off by the Hammers against the run of play in the 36th minute, Jeremy Doku restored parity as the game resumed after half-time.
Bernardo Silva eventually gave City the lead after latching on to a beautiful lobbed ball into the box from Julian Alvarez in the 76th minute. Erling Haaland, on what looked to be a frustrating day at the office, produced a clinical finish past a determined Alphonse Areola 10 minutes later to put the hammers to the sword.
Meanwhile, their opponents Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday have looked shaky in recent weeks after a positive start. After opening the campaign with four consecutive victories, they have lost two of their last three matches.
They lost 2-1 to FK Čukarički this Saturday and will need to sort out their issues at the back ahead of the visit of Manchester on Tuesday. The Serbian side have conceded six goals in their last three games and if they bring that form to the Etihad, it’s likely that Haaland and co will be at it.
