Bolivia vs Argentina Possible starting lineups and team news for World Cup 2026 qualifier

Argentina will take on Bolivia in the high altitude of La Paz on Tuesday, September 12, matchday 2 of South America’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

La Albiceleste started their journey to the next World Cup on the right foot as they beat Ecuador 1-0 thanks to a superb free-kick goal from the great Lionel Messi. However, the Inter Miami star is questionable for this match.

La Verde, on the other hand, is trying to bounce back after a terrible 5-1 loss to Brazil. Beating the reigning world champions doesn’t look like an easy task, but Gustavo Costas’ men will be hoping that 3,625 meters above sea level in La Paz will give them the edge.

Injury and team news for Bolivia vs Argentina

After being introduced in the second half against Brazil, Luciano Ursino could be brought into Bolivia’s midfield for Tuesday’s game. Despite scoring Bolivia’s only goal in the last game, Victor Abrego may have to settle for a place among the substitutes. Experienced striker Marcelo Moreno is expected to retain his starting position. Goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra could have his work cut out for him but will be hoping for protection from a back five of Diego Medina, Jairo Quinteros, Adrian Jusino, Marcelo Suarez and Roberto Fernandez.

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni also faces some key decisions. Lionel Messi, who picked up a knock in the narrow win over Ecuador, may start on the bench, giving other attacking talents a chance to shine. Lisandro Martinez is unlikely to be a risk due to the leg problem he picked up in Manchester United’s recent game against Arsenal. There have been concerns over Cristiano Romero’s fitness, but the Tottenham Hotspur defender is expected to be fit and partner Nicolas Otamendi in central defence.
