The Miami Heat became the most talked about team in the NBA when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh decided to join forces in South Beach between 2010 and 2014.
Inter Miami does something similar in football.
Legendary Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has become the first of Lionel Messi’s friends to sign with Major League Soccer club Inter Miami as Messi’s squad overhaul begins.
Inter Miami confirmed the news minutes after soccer transfer guru Fabrizio Romano did so on Twitter.
Busquets, 34, could join any team out of contract at Barcelona and has chosen Inter Miami, where he is expected to soon be reunited with former club-mate Messi, whose signing is yet to be officially confirmed. The team owner told the media that they had agreed on terms.
When will Sergio Busquets debut for Inter Miami?
Busquets signed as a free agent through 2025, but his contract is expected to only take effect beginning July 1 with most standard contracts in Europe running through June 30.
The midfielder played his last game for Barcelona on May 28, and assuming he already has completed his summer vacation, he could be in position to begin his preseason training in Miami.
Players typically run through two to three weeks of preseason and Inter Miami will want to make sure Busquets is physically up to speed to join a league in full midseason swing.
Reports have Messi debuting July 21 in a Leagues Cup match against Cruz Azul, and Busquets could potentially wait to also debut in that match.
