Ahead of this summer’s Gold Cup the two CONCACAF sides go head-to-head in a pre-tournament friendly in Mazatlán.
Mexico’s national team will face fellow Gold Cup contenders Guatemala in the first of their pre-Gold Cup warm-up matches.
For the first time ever, El Tri will play at the home of Mazatlán FC in Sinaloa, at their recently completed Estadio de Mazatlán. It marks the start of a busy summer for Diego Cocco’s side. Friendlies against Guatemala and Cameroon will serve as preparation for the Nations League semi-final with the United States and then the Gold Cup later this month.
Guatemala will also compete in this year’s Gold Cup finals, qualifying after winning League B, Group D of the Nations League. They will go into this match as clear underdogs, but they can use the services of Rubio Rubín, a 28-year-old striker who plays for Real Salt Lake in the MLS.
