Japan host Peru at the Suita City Football Stadium on Tuesday (June 20) in a friendly.
The hosts were one of the surprise teams at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, topping a group that included Germany and Spain before losing on penalties in the last 16.
Japan started their preparations for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup in January next year and played a series of friendly matches. Their last game ended in a 6-0 demolition of 10-man El Salvador, which featured goals from six different players. This included Al-Rayyan defender Shogo Taniguchi scoring his first international goal.
Meanwhile, Peru failed to secure a place at the World Cup after losing to Australia in the intercontinental play-off. After a couple of disappointing friendlies in March, they got back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over South Korea on Friday. Bryan Reyna scored the only goal of the game.
