Germany square off against Israel in their UEFA Euro U-21 Championship opener on Thursday (June 22).
The home team won 3:1 over Switzerland in a friendly match last week. Dan Ndoye put the Swiss in front, while Kevin Schade, Jessic Ngakam and Nelson Weiper accounted for the Germans.
Meanwhile, Israel lost 2-0 to Belgium in their last friendly match. Rangers forward Nicolas Raskin broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, while Omri Gandelmann scored an own goal in the 65th minute.
Germany secured their place in the finals as winners of Group G in the qualifiers, taking 27 points from ten matches. Israel, meanwhile, finished second, eight points behind. They subsequently eliminated Ireland on penalties after a 1–1 aggregate draw in the play-offs to qualify for the U21 Euros.
