Barcelona Femeni Complete Stunning Wolfsburg Comeback to Lift UWCL title

Barcelona Femeni

Wolfsburg stunned Barcelona within minutes when Ewa Pajor caught the returning Lucy Bronze in possession and struck from distance to break the deadlock.

It was the fastest ever goal scored against the Blaugrana in the competition (2:57) and the leading scorer’s ninth goal of the season.

However, after the goal scored, it was only the Spanish side. Irene Paredes saw a close-range effort blocked, Aitana Bonmatí’s shot was blocked and Caroline Graham-Hansen failed to divert a cross into the net.

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, remained remarkably composed in this first half and doubled their lead against the run of play after once again exposing Barcelona’s open space.

Pajor added an assist to her name, crossing from wide to link up with strike partner Alexandra Popp. The striker made no mistake from the spot-kick and headed home to make it 2:0.

It took a tremendous second half to turn the score around and Barcelona clearly had a big team talk at the break which fueled their impressive comeback.

Patricia Guijarro became the woman of the hour, signaling that the Spanish club is still in the game and also one of the best football teams of today.

She headed the ball into the box to make it 1-0 before her header equalized in the blink of an eye as it was Wolfsburg’s turn to be stunned. Both goals were scored within two minutes.

The fun didn’t slow down as both sides continued to pile on the pressure with around 20 minutes remaining and the game begging for a late winner.

And when we flipped the script, it was Barcelona’s turn to capitalize on some sloppy football, turning the final completely around.

Wolfsburg failed to clear the ball from their penalty area and it fell to Fridolina Rolfö, who fired home into an empty net against her former club.

Nothing Wolfsburg sent forward was enough to find a late equaliser, and through seven minutes of injury time the German club could only watch the title slip away.

Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas also came off the bench in the final minutes to help Barcelona to their second title.
