Uzbekistan U20 will take on Israel U20 at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in the FIFA U20 World Cup on Tuesday.
Both teams advanced to the round of 16 after finishing second with four points in their respective groups. Uzbekistan beat Guatemala 2-0 in their last match to consolidate their place behind Group A leaders Argentina, while Israel beat Japan 2-1 in Group C. They scored five and four goals in the group.
It would be a disappointing tournament for the White Wolves if they were knocked out at the group stage given their origins in the competition. They boast five U20 World Cup appearances, reaching the quarter-finals twice in 2013 and 2015. Uzbekistan and Israel are yet to meet in this category.
Considered the minnows of the group, Israel exceeded expectations in Argentina. They look confident and seasoned despite making their debut in the competition. Israel and the Dominican Republic are the only two teams out of 24 to appear at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time.
