Nigeria U20 and Dominican Republic U20 will kickstart their 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup campaign at the Estadio Malvinas on Sunday.

The Flying Eagles will be making their 13th appearance at the U20 World Cup. They booked their place in the tournament thanks to their third-place finish at the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this year.

Nigeria enter the tournament on the back of a six-goal thriller against Colombia in their final warm-up friendly. Sunday Jude, Ibrahim Muhammad and Emmanuel Umeh found the back of the net for Ladan Bosso’s side.

The Dominican Republic are making their FIFA U-20 World Cup debut, securing qualification thanks to their shock second-place finish at the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

The Caribbean side lost 3-0 in their last friendly against Ecuador last week. Before that, they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Argentina when Juan Gauto came off the bench to finish the game with a brace in the second half.
