A year ago, Major League Soccer never saw a club win the CONCACAF Champions League title as they failed to break the stranglehold Mexican teams maintained over the competition.
They could now be back together when LAFC take on Club Leon in a two-legged final, hoping to follow the pioneering example set by the Seattle Sounders last year.
The two clubs could not be in more different positions. LAFC is in the middle of the season, fighting for first place in the Western Conference and was recently knocked out of the US Open Cup by rival LA Galaxy a week ago.
Leon, meanwhile, has not pitched since being eliminated from the Liga MX Clausura playoffs on May 7. He finished sixth in the standings, but upset Tigres in the CCL semifinals in early May.
