Argentina U-20 will receive Uzbekistan U-20 this Saturday, May 20 for Matchday 1 of the 2023 U-20 World Cup group stage.
Argentina will be hosting the U20 World Cup which begins on Saturday and they will play Uzbekistan in their first match in a sold out stadium. Coach Mascherano has his 21 players and the preparations are already under way.
The Argentine team was unable to even pass the first stage, performing very poorly and their qualification for this World Cup was solely due to the fact that the original hosts, Indonesia, eventually lost their organization due to disagreements with FIFA. The Argentines will have to do better than they did at the continental tournament when they face Uzbekistan U20s, contenders for the top two spots in the group.
The South Americans rounded up their preparations for the tournament with a comfortable 4-0 victory over the Dominican Republic in their final friendly fixture last week. Valentin Carboni and Ignacio Maestro scored first-half goals to put their side in control, while Juan Gauto stepped off the bench to complete the rout with a late brace.
Uzbekistan, meanwhile, suffered a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay. Fabrizio Diaz opened the scoring from the spot in the 68th minute, while Anderson Duarte added a second in injury time.
Argentina will be aiming to win a record-extending seventh title at this level and secured their spot in the tournament by virtue of their status as hosts. Uzbekistan qualified courtesy of their third-placed finish in the 2023 AFC Asian Under-20 Cup.
