Speaking at a public appearance, La Liga president Javier Tebas has given his two cents about Barcelona and their attempts to re-sign Lionel Messi in the summer.

The La Liga supremo has often come down heavily on Barcelona over their financial practices, the Negreira case and their involvement in the Super League project.

Speaking about a possible return for Messi in the summer, Tebas has previously hinted that it would be complicated for Barca to complete a deal due to their current Fair Play financial situation.

Barcelona have already sent their economic viability plan to La Liga and Tebas has hinted that the club have the chance to raise a good amount of money by selling players this summer, which would then help them re-sign Messi.

“Barcelona will sell players for good amounts. Their plan is going in that direction,” he said (h/t AS).

“The best players stay in Spain and they say that Leo wants to go back to Spain and it will have to be for less money than at PSG.”

“They have their strategy to sign more players. I don’t know if it’s the right thing to do, but if they managed to get that kind of revenue, they could spend more on players,” he added.

“We discussed the consequences of the received documentation with the club. Until they see their plan accomplished, they will continue to exceed it. Here we are not looking at whether they will bring him in for Messi or Mbappé. We tell them they have so much money to sign.”

In order for Barcelona to re-sign Messi or any other player, they need to get the green light from Barcelona on their economic viability plan and implement it. The Blaugrana will thus have to sell players and reduce their salaries.
