The La Liga season is easing towards an elementary finish at the top of the table as a dominant Barcelona side push towards confirming their league title with a home match against Osasuna.
Barcelona sit 11 points clear of rivals Real Madrid at the summit and, despite winning just two of their last five games, have faced little opposition in the standings as those behind them continue to languish. Robert Lewandowski is also aiming for La Liga scoring, although it’s not as obvious as he faces stiff competition from Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
Osasuna, meanwhile, are eighth in the league table but are five points back of the European places and have struggled in recent weeks, having been beaten by Real Sociedad last time out and narrowly beating basement dwellers Cadiz in their previous game.
However, this match is a harbinger of the Copa del Rey final for Osasuna as they face Real Madrid on Saturday. Knowing that a trophy will be at stake in this match, players can rest or otherwise keep one eye on the weekend.
