It was a five star performance by the Argentina U20 national team as they won 5-0 vs. New Zealand at the U20 World Cup.
Argentina have already qualified for the round of 16 at the U20 World Cup, just a point short of topping the group. Javier Mascherano’s side ended up scoring five goals and continue to improve game by game.
Ignacio Maestro Puch started for the Argentina U20 national team and would score the first goal of the game. Argentina won a corner and it was soon cleared, the ball falling to Aguirre. He would cross and find Maestro Puch and his header would give Argentina a 1-0 lead.
Three minutes later it was Luka Romero’s dribble and his pass was found by Gino Infantino who tapped in from inside the penalty area to make it 2-0 for Argentina. But what came was the U20 World Cup goal.
Luka Romero would dribble past two New Zealand players in his own half and run towards the New Zealand goal. He unleashed a left-footed effort from outside the penalty area and found the top of the net to make it 3-0 for Argentina.
Javier Mascherano would make a change at half-time as Matías Soulé would be replaced by Juan Gauto. The second half started and it didn’t take long for Argentina to score again.
The effort inside the penalty area would see the referee go to VAR and it was a handball and a penalty for Argentina. Brian Aguirre would take the penalty and send the keeper wrong to score. It was his first goal at the U20 World Cup.
Valentín Barco was brought in for Valentín Gómez and Mascherano would also make a goalkeeper change. Nicolás Cláa has been substituted and Federico Gómes Gerth is coming on.
Mascherano would make two more substitutions as Máximo Perrone was brought on for Luca Romero and Alejo Véliz for Ignacio Maestro Puch. And Argentina would get another goal with that.
Máximo Perrone crossed for Alejo Véliz and would give another header to make it 5-0 for Argentina. Alejo Véliz now has three U20 World Cup goals and all three were headers!
The match ended 5-0 for the Argentina U20 team and Argentina are on top of their group. One of the players of the match for Argentina was Federico Redondo, who did not score.
