Alejo Véliz, Luka Romero and Máximo Perrone scored for the Argentina U20 team in their 3-0 win vs. Guatemala at the U20 World Cup.

It was a fairly comfortable win for Argentina’s under-20 team as they went top of Group A in the table with two wins from two. Javier Mascherano’s side were in control of the game and it was a first-half goal from Véliza that opened the scoring.

Juan Gauto came on for Brian Aguirre and it was Gauto who assisted on the first goal. A cross into the penalty area from Gauto found Vélize and the 19-year-old would leap to head home, his second goal of the U20 World Cup.

Gauto now has two goals in the tournament, both of his goals were headers. At 1-0, Gómes Gerth made a great save to keep the lead.

Gómes Gerth tried to shoot from outside the penalty area and the ball went over the crossbar. The match will go to half time with Argentina.

Guatemala should be down to 10 men after Carlos Vargas’ two yellow cards early in the second half. A few minutes later, Mascherano would make three substitutions.

The first injury was likely due to injury as Valentín Barco was kicked and fouled throughout the match and was replaced by Román Vega. Luka Romero would also come on for Matías Soulé and Ignacio Maestro Puch for Alejo Véliz.

Nice build-up play from the team from Javier Mascherano and Luke Romero would shoot from outside the penalty area and beat the keeper to put Argentina 2-0 up. It was his first goal at the U20 World Cup.

Federico Redondo was replaced by Valentín Gómez after the second goal.

Gómes Gerth would make another great save. With the ball in the penalty area, Guatemala’s initial attempt was saved by the Argentine and Gómes Gerth was quick and his reflexes sharp as he went down and struck from close range.

A minute later, Argentina will also receive a red card. Tomás Avilés, who was already on a yellow card, would receive a red card. A foul outside the penalty area and Avilés would receive his second yellow of the match.

After 10 minutes of injury time, Máximo Perrone would make it 3-0 for Argentina. Maestro Puch’s initial effort was saved by the keeper and Perrone scored off the rebound.

Argentina U20 now lead the group with two wins and six points. They play New Zealand on Friday.
