Meanwhile, Sporting shocked Premier League leaders Arsenal in the round of 16 by winning the match on penalties to force the Gunners to return home to England empty-handed. They are fourth in the Primeira Liga table, and while they are out of the title race, they can still push for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season and will want to be careful about prioritizing the Europa League at the cost of a place in next year’s top European tournament.
