Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge of Bayern Munich will be against his old club in Germany’s biggest rivalry.
The former PSG and Chelsea manager is set to begin life as Bayern boss in Der Klassiker when the reigning German champions host Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund from the Allianz Arena on Saturday. Tuchel took over from Julian Nagelsmann in a shock move that was unexpected and costly.
Dortmund lead the fierce Bundesliga title race by a single point ahead of second-placed Bayern as the two clubs have jockeyed for position in recent weeks. Third place Union Berlin and a host of clubs just below them are within reach, but they will need both frontrunners to slip through if they are to get back into the title picture.
Der Klassiker is already one of football’s fiercest rivalries, and now with the added managerial wrinkle, it’s set to be a real spectacle this time around.
