Barcelona have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Lionel Messi in the summer as Le Parisien reports that negotiations between the player and PSG’s camp have completely shut down over a renewal.
For most of the season, Messi was expected to renew his contract with the French giants as he is set to become a free agent in the summer. However, at the beginning of this year, things changed.
Barcelona then joined the bid for his signature, with Joan Laporta and Xavi publicly expressing their desire to bring back the Ligue 1 player.
At this point, it has been reported several times that Leo is also interested in returning. In fact, he dreams of it and is willing to do anything to make the move happen. His family is also looking forward to his return to Barcelona.
Barcelona understand that signing Messi – or any other player – in the summer will not be an easy task. They are in a troubled financial situation and in conflict with La Liga, which has not even allowed them to register the new contracts of Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Marcos Alonso.
As such, Gerard Romero has announced that Barcelona have decided to present La Liga with a full financial structure and plan regarding Messi’s return. While the league ruled out a few points, they believe the two sides already have an agreement.
They obviously know how huge Messi’s return could be for the league as well, which is why they’ve started preparing promotions and ads featuring the player.
With Leo ready to take a pay cut to return to Barcelona, the ball is now squarely in the court of Joan Lapora and co. The Catalan administration are ready to do everything in their power to force the move this summer.
