The United States men take the field for their first competitive match of the 2026 World Cup cycle as they travel to Grenada to play a CONCACAF Nations League group stage game.
The USMNT successfully advanced from their group to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but were eliminated by the Netherlands in the round of 16 and failed to win the knockout stage at the next tournament.
Head coach Gregg Berhalter saw his contract expire at that point and had yet to make a decision on his future. Instead, incumbent head coach Anthony Hudson remains in charge while U.S. Soccer moves toward a new hire, either Berhalter or someone else.
They now face Grenada, who are ranked 173rd in the world according to the latest official FIFA rankings. As part of the inaugural 2019 Nations League tournament, they were unbeaten in League B, which earned them promotion to League A in the competition. Since then, they have just one competitive win, a 1–0 victory over the US Virgin Islands in the preliminary rounds of World Cup qualifying in 2021.
