Having originally been named in Hansi Flick’s squad to face Peru and Belgium, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has pulled out with an injury.
Jamal Musiala has withdrawn from Germany’s squad for the March international break, with the Bayern Munich forward ruled out with a hamstring strain.
The striker, who has won 20 caps for his country since making his debut in 2021, has been called up for the team’s friendlies against Peru and Belgium.
But he will no longer link up with Hansi Flick’s side after picking up a leg problem in Bayern’s 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Flick confirmed the news before his team’s open session in Frankfurt on Monday, confirming he would not be calling up a replacement for Musial.
“We all hoped Jamal would be fit because he has unique qualities,” he said. “That’s why it’s a shame for everyone that he won’t be with us.
“We hope that he will be fit again as soon as possible and that he will play after the international matches.”
Musiala, who was capped by both England and Germany at youth level before signing up for the latter, made his debut against Iceland in March 2021.
He was a member of their squad for both Euro 2020, where the Three Lions were eliminated, and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they were eliminated in the group stages.
In his absence, Germany will face Peru in Mainz on Saturday and travel to Cologne three days later to face Belgium, with Die Nationalmannschaft failing to qualify for Euro 2024 as the host nation.
