Barcelona president Joan Laporta is increasingly confident of persuading Lionel Messi to re-join the club.

Joan Laporta recently met with Messi’s father, Jorge, to discuss the Argentine forward’s future at the Camp Nou should Messi decide to leave PSG at the end of the season.

As his contract with PSG nears its end, Messi’s future is in his hands. He can extend it for another 12 months, sign with a Ligue 1 side, or leave and join a new club.

Premier League side Inter Miami are also keen to persuade Messi to leave Paris Saint-Germain, but have expressed concerns about the possibility of competing for the Ballon d’Or in the future if the 35-year-old leaves Europe.

Barcelona are trying to convince Messi to return to the Camp Nou, which includes rebuilding his relationship with his family after leaving the club, and sources confirm that both sides are willing to put aside their differences if Messi wants to.

Messi’s international future and desire to play in the 2024 Copa America were also part of his thinking and helped him decide to continue exploring his options.

Barcelona coach Xavi has publicly stated his desire to work with Messi, but stressed that the final decision rests with the World Cup champion.

“I have already said that this is his home and the doors are open to him. He is a friend and we are in constant contact,” Xavi told the media.

It depends on him. It depends on him what he wants to do next. This is his house. Without a doubt, the best footballer in history will always have a place.”
