Karim Benzema became Real Madrid’s second-highest LaLiga scorer of all time as Los Blancos eased past bottom side Elche in a 4-0 victory.

The Madrid captain scored twice from the penalty spot at the Santiago Bernabeu to break the deadlock for Marco Asensio.

Benzema surpassed legendary striker Raul to take his tally of goals for the club to 230 in the Spanish Premier League, with only Cristiano Ronaldo (311) scoring more.

Barcelona’s appearance in the Europa League on Thursday saw Carlo Ancelotti’s side narrow the gap to the league leaders to eight.

Madrid took the lead in the eighth minute after winning their fifth Club World Cup record. After receiving the ball from Dani Carvajal, Asensio overcame several challenges before being cleared by Edgar Badia.

Benzema calmly closed from 12 yards to double the lead after his header was blocked by Enzo Loco after half an hour.

Madrid star Benzema repeated the feat in first-half stoppage time, overtaking Badia after Diego Gonzalez beat Rodrigo.

After halftime, the home team tried to increase their lead. Badia kept Rodrigo for two minutes and Elche’s goalkeeper also blocked Benzema’s hat trick.

Benzema and Eduardo Camavinga just missed the target and Asensio drew clever reactions from Badia with a powerful volley as Madrid looked to add icing to the cake.

Finally, Modric, a substitute in the penalty area, took control and scored from the beginning of the goal in the 10th minute.
