PSG slipped in form since Ligue 1 play returned from its World Cup break, and injuries to key players haven’t helped them rediscover their stride.
Initially, Brazilian superstar Neymar went down with “muscle fatigue” and missed time, but a major surprise could be imminent.
French striker Kylian Mbappe fired a terrifying PSG attack at a crucial moment in Ligue 1 at the start of February. Lionel Messi then missed the 3-1 defeat to Monaco with a muscle problem.
With PSG looking at major domestic matches against top teams and the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League starting, it’s a bad time for PSG to lose their talisman up front.
However, Mbappe could be back sooner than expected, or at least that’s what opponents think.
Will Mbappe Play Today Against Bayern?
That timeline suggested the French star would miss out until roughly February 23. He has already sat out PSG’s league game against Toulouse on February 4, as well as the Coupe de France quarterfinal elimination against rivals Marseille on February 8, and the Ligue 1 loss to Monaco.
According to PSG’s first medical release, Mbappé will definitely not miss the Bayern game as he fell a week before his return. However, Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann is not so sure.
“I don’t think he will miss this game, so I don’t expect anything else,” Nagelsmann said at a press conference the day after PSG’s medical update on February 2. “I don’t know what’s going on, so I think it’s going to play. It’s a little vague saying it’s going to be on the front page for three weeks.”
Following the match head coach Christophe Galtier confirmed the injury, but despite his playing down fears of a long-term issue, stating that the injury “doesn’t seem very serious,” the club confirmed a day later that the player would be out three weeks.
“After undergoing tests, Kylian Mbappe suffered an injury to the left thigh at the level of the femoral biceps,” read the February 2 update. “He is expected to be out of action for three weeks.”
On February 13, Mbappe was pictured back in training with his PSG teammates and it would appear there is certainly a chance he faces Bayern.
