Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong will soon be on his way to Manchester, his fiancee Mikky Kiemeney has confirmed.
The Dutchman was heavily pursued by Manchester United last summer at the request of new manager Erik ten Hag, who worked with the midfielder at Ajax.
The deal never materialized and while United were able to bring in Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, De Jong remains on their radar moving forward.
With a move to United one day still in play, fans asked Kiemeney in an Instagram Q&A when De Jong would head to Manchester.
She answered candidly, revealing that she will be there on February 23 – the day Barcelona face United at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Europa League play-off round.
Barcelona host United in the first leg a week earlier at the Camp Nou in the first meeting between the two sides since the 2019 Champions League quarter-finals.
A Luke Shaw own goal gave Barca a 1-0 lead from the first leg in Manchester before they triumphed 3-0 at home to seal their place in the semi-finals. Lionel Messi’s brace was followed by a strike from former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.
