Athletic Bilbao have secured the services of coach Ernesto Valverde until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Valverde, who is in his third spell as Athletic coach, is out of contract at the end of the season.

The former Barcelona coach returned to San Mames last June and has started the campaign strongly.

Atlético are level on points with fourth-placed Atletico Madrid in LaLiga heading into the World Cup break, having gone five games without a win since the restart of the season.

The momentary victory has bounced back at Athletic, but Valverde will remain in charge until the end of next season.
