Bruno Fernandes will tonight miss Manchester United’s Carabao Cup clash with Charlton.

The midfielder is suspended after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament during the win over Burnley last month, so manager Erik ten Hag is relatively light in attacking areas.

While Fernandes’ absence could have given Donny van de Beek another chance to impress, the club have confirmed the Dutchman is unlikely to feature against Bournemouth following his injury.

Lisandro Martinez is pushing for his first start since winning the World Cup with Argentina and Harry Maguire could join him in central defence.

However, Jadon Sancho is not thought to be fit to play and The Hag has confirmed that Anthony Martial is not yet ready to start week-to-week.

New signing Jack Butland may make his debut.

Predicted Manchester United XI (4-2-3-1): Butland; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia; McTominay, Fred; Elanga, Eriksen, Antony; Garnacho.

predicted Charlton lineup (5-3-2): Maynard-Brewer (GK) — Clare, Inniss, O’Connell, Ness, Sessegnon — Dobson, Fraser, Morgan — Rak-Sakyi, Leaburn
