Then, in a very dangerous play in the second half, the superstar almost conceded a fantastic goal from a free kick. In the 73rd minute, however, Lionel Messi converted a penalty kick and now has ten goals in the history of the World Cup.
The Netherlands defended itself with a goal by Wout Weghorst (83′) and then performed a miracle. Weghorst scored again in the 100th minute and the match went into overtime. Dibu Martinez then became the hero in the penalty shootout and Argentina eliminated the Netherlands.
Argentina will face Croatia in the semi-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. That match is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13 at Lusail Stadium. Two more wins for either of these teams to lift the trophy.
