Ederson: Brazil must have ‘victorious mentality’ to achieve World Cup dream

With a tough group ahead of them at Qatar 2022, Ederson says Brazil must be on the ball from their first kick of the tournament.

Brazil goalkeeper Ederson says the Selecao can only fulfil their World Cup dream if they have a “victorious mentality” over the coming weeks.

Tite’s side are chasing a first success in football’s most prestigious competition since 2002, with their campaign opening against Serbia in Group G on Thursday.

They face further challenges against Switzerland and Cameroon as they look to end their two-year wait at Qatar 2022, with many tipped as favourites.

But Manchester City stopper Ederson says any reputation will only be fulfilled if they give it their all and keep their eyes on the prize.

“We know how difficult it is, but we have a good team with the overall capacity to get to the final and try to win it,” he told his club’s official website.

“We’ve got to have that mentality, a winning mentality. We’ve got to think we’re going to be there, we’re going to work to be there and that’s what we’re going to do.”

“The World Cup is the World Cup. When you talk about the World Cup, any player who gets to play in it will think of him lifting the trophy – and for me it’s no different.”

“When I think about the World Cup, I imagine Brazil lifting the trophy.
