Manchester United winger Antony has posted an emotional video on social media reacting to news that he has been named in Brazil’s 26-player squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Selecao boss Tite confirmed his final selection on Monday ahead of the tournament in Qatar, with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes left out.

But Antony made the final cut and posted a video on Twitter reacting to the announcement.

“For you! Thank you, God! Thank you everyone… friends, family, mum, dad, and brothers! Love you! Too much emotion,” Antony said.

Brazil teammates Neymar and Richarlison also posted similar videos in response to Tite’s press conference.

Antony has played 11 times for Brazil’s senior team, making his debut only in October 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela where he scored in stoppage time to secure a 3-1 win.

Tite’s preferred attacking trident has been Neymar, Richarlison and Raphinha in recent months, while the stellar form of Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli means there is stiff competition for a place in the starting line-up.

Antony is not the only representative from Man Utd in the Brazilian squad, midfielders Casemiro and Fred also made the cut. Alex Telles, who has joined Sevilla on loan for the 2022/23 season, is one of two left-backs in the 26-man squad.
