He has been linked with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain in January, but Kylian Mbappe says he is “very happy” at the club.

Kylian Mbappe has described reports he wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January as “completely wrong”.

Mbappe, who played in PSG’s 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Marseille on Sunday, is said to have felt betrayed by the club’s hierarchy.

The 23-year-old World Cup winner signed a new deal in May after months of uncertainty but was reported to have become unsettled again after failing to meet his demands both tactically and in recruitment.

PSG’s football advisor Luis Campos strongly denied the reports, claiming that Mbappe had not informed the club of such intentions, while head coach Galtier also expressed confusion over the speculation.

The France international has now spoken out about the reports that emerged just ahead of PSG’s Champions League clash against Benfica on Tuesday and is adamant they are not true.

“I’m very happy, I never asked to leave in January,” he said in an interview with French media. “The information came out on the day of the match, I didn’t understand. I’m not even remotely involved in the news. I was as shocked as everyone else.

“People might think I’m involved but I’m not involved at all, I was having a nap. My entourage was at my little brother’s game, all the people who look after me weren’t there so we were stunned .” when we found out.

“Then we had to deal with it, we had to play. Suffice it to say, it’s completely wrong and I’m very happy.”

Mbappe was a target for Real Madrid before agreeing to extend his stay in Paris.

He said: “I’m a footballer, the most important thing for me is to play and give my best on the pitch. If I start losing too much weight, I get tired very quickly.”

“When you play for PSG, you know what you’re getting into, what it’s going to involve for better and for worse. You have to be prepared.

“Those who come here know, we warn them. We are in the right place at the moment, but we are focused on winning games and titles.

Mbappe has started the season in prolific form in front of goal, scoring 12 goals in 14 games in all competitions for the French champions.
