Mohamed Sissoko believes Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland have the quality to reach the levels of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland can reach the levels of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, according to former Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Mohamed Sissoko.

Both PSG forward Mbappe and Manchester City forward Haaland have emerged as highly talented players with phenomenal goalscoring records in recent seasons.

Haaland scored 67 goals in two-and-a-half seasons in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and has subsequently lit up the Premier League since his move to City, scoring 14 goals in 10 games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Meanwhile, PSG main man Mbappe has been unafraid to score goals for several years now and on the biggest stages, not least in the 2018 World Cup final with France.

As Messi and Ronaldo approach the twilight of their careers, questions have inevitably arisen about who will replace them.

Sissoko believes Mbappe and Haaland can reach those levels and Stats Perform said: “They score a lot of goals. They are also different players.”

“I think Mbappe is a top player, so is Haaland. I think they can definitely reach Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi.”

Much has been made of PSG’s transfer window, with Mbappe initially linked with a move away before opting to stay under new head coach Christophe Galtier, who was brought in as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.

Sissoko commented: “I think [Galtier] is the right appointment. He knows the French culture. He has worked with many Portuguese so he knows how to manage this type of player.

“He has a sporting director [who is] very good and very respectful. So I think they are doing everything right to win the Champions League one day.”

Pressed further on PSG’s chances of winning that famous first Champions League, Sissoko said: “I don’t know because the teams are very strong, like Bayern Munich and Manchester City. They are all very good. We will see.”
